Garden State
I just got back from seeing this amazing movie. Garden State, directed, written, and starring Scrubs actor Zach Braff, is a story about an actor who returns to New Jersey to attend his mother’s funeral. During his short stay in town, he meets up with some old school buddies and an habitual liar, Samantha, who, along with the lack of his meds, changes his view on life. Braff is marvelous in his directorial, and motion picture debut in an effort worthy of an oscar. Maybe Garden State is too fresh in my mind, but having seen 4 other commendable movies this year, it gets the top honor on the Top 5 Movies of 2004 (so far):

- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
- Spiderman 2
- Kill Bill: Volume 2
- Napolean Dynamite
It is going to be hard to hold onto those last two positions with Hero out and Wes Anderson’s next film, The Life Aquatic still looming out there.
