mNote Project

There is a problem in my life which I have wanted to address for a while now. How do I keep reminders for myself and have access to it where ever I haev a computer? Currently I use a combination of this blog and email to accomplish this, but it is not a solution that I would like. Reminders get lost in regular email and end up getting forgotten. What I would really like is a server based solution which has an interface for my Mac, Linux and for my Windows box at work. Something similar to OS X’s Stickies, Gnome’s Note applet, or 3M’s Post-Its, plus the ability to view notes from a web page.

So I think that I am going to embark on a journey to create an solution for this very problem. The following are a list of Features that I would like to see (I am using this post as a reminder to myself):

  • Standardized method of retrieving notes – XML
  • Note Groups – Similar to iCal’s color coded calendar feature
  • Ability for the client to subscribe to certain Note Groups
  • Ability to mark a Group or a specific Note as public or private
  • Option to physically delete notes or mark them as deleted or completed
  • Notes will be saved in a database and retrieved as XML files
  • Notes can have Due dates and the client app can display reminders
  • iCal support for notes with specific date/time and duration
  • Individual notes should store their position, width, and height on ther server so notes appear in the same location on every platform
