Spam Stopgap Extreme
by Marshall on December 31, 2004
I woke up this morning to find over 50 emails in my inbox notifying me that someone commented on this blog. Of course they were all spam and none of the comments actually made it through the blacklist, but it was still annoying. Sure, I could turn off the email notification, but then I wouldn’t know when someone acually commented. So I searched the WordPress Wiki and found this. It generates an md5 hash on comment submission and expects it to be returned by the poster. We’ll see if online—–poker.com can get through this!
Its amazing that 1 week ago it was -2. Today it is already 50. That is Wisconsin winter for you.
Update 1: The Spam Stopgap works too well. I have not been able to post a comment at all. I keep getting “Spammers are *not* welcome” after a 1 minute wait. You have not conquered me yet spam…
Update 2: I turned the Stopgap back on even though it denies everything. I was really sick of getting post responses in my email

I’m going to have to try it too, since I started this mess somehow….
