Tough Start To The Day

January 10th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Lately I have been hitting the snooze button one or five times more then normal, so today I decided to get up a little “earlier” then the rest of this week to get to work on time. When I got out to my car, securely enclosed in my garage, I noticed that the power was out in the garage, rendering my automatic garage door opener useless. Not having a garage before, I was clueless on how to open the door manually, but I knew that there had to be a way.

I went back up into my apartment to call my landlord to tell him and to ask him how to open up the door manually. He told me he would look at it today and told me how to open the door manually. After moving my car out of the garage, I went to close the garage door — manually. This being one of those fancy electronic garages, it didn’t have a handle on the outside. I started to pull down the door, carefully noting to myself that I should be extra careful not to pinch my fingers in the hinges. Just as I was thinking this to myself, OUCH!!! My middle and ring finger on my left hand were crushed in between two of the door panels. For a few seconds I just stood there, amazed at my utter stupidity, and then pushed the door back up with my free hand. Thankfully no kids were around or they would have heard me curse up a storm. I then walked back into the garage to close the door from the inside, the proper way, slammed the garage door in anger, and preceded to drive to work.

My fingers still feel a bit sore, but they are feeling much better, thankfully, although my middle finger has a nice blood blister above my nail.

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum was my lunch break. I had to take my car into the dealer to have a burned out headlight replaced. VW makes it so difficult to get at the headlights to change them yourself. I called Hall VW yesterday to make an appointment and they said to just bring it in anytime. The whole process took all of 5 minutes and they didn’t charge me a dime (I had the bulb already). Next was a trip to the post office to pick up stamps. The post office in Brookfield has a really nice touch screen kiosk in the lobby that will dispense postage if you use a credit or a debit card. I had wanted to pay cash, but when I turned to the line, it was 10 people long, so I swiped my ATM card in less then a minute, I had my postage and was out the door. I had expected to take an hour lunch just to get these two tasks done and grab a bite to eat, but all in all, it took me just over a half an hour.
