In the past I have used existing site designs and modified them to suit my needs. There is still a little bit of work left to do, but over all, it is pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

I switched web hosts recently (if you have noticed the site being down) to 1and1.com. They offer Linux hosting with 5GB space, 10 MySql databases (like I need more then one), 500 email addresses, ability to host multiple domains, and a bunch more. Most enticing to me was Python support. I can now put up my own Planet site, with the aide of WebCron to fetch updates hourly.

I always found that commercial where the man finally gets broadband and is surfin’ the net, just clicking away at everything. Then he reaches the end of the internet and goes back to the family room where his wife is sitting. She says “I thought you were on the internet” and the man replies “I think I finished it!”

Modest Mouse
I saw Modest Mouse at the Eagles Ballroom last Saturday night. The opening bands were alright, but Modest Mouse were rockin’. They pumped out the big radio hits off of “Good News …” within the first 4 songs, which I thought was kinda cool. This left them the remaining of the show to mix up the slower paced songs and kept us wondering which song would be the closer and the encore. I felt old. I commented that I was happy that the entire high school graduating class of 2006 was able to show up. Holy Cow! I think that I saw at most 10 people of legal drinking age.

I fixed the missing background in the comments section.

I also added a bit of css code that I saw on Ticketmasters site. If you hover or select the search box, you will see a blue “selection” border just like the highlighted widgets on OS X.

I got around to updating to WordPress 1.5 after I have been running a nitely from December. I decided to modify the default Kubrick theme and now the site has a darker feel to it. The Apple header is a picture I took of my Powerbook the other evening. My theme was pretty good, but it lacked some of the polish that the Kubrick theme had, plus my theme was broken when you searched or looked at the archives. I do need to add a menu at the top so that people can navigate to photos and files.

Where have I been for the last 18 days!?! Very busy. Life decided to not allow me to have any free time for awhile, and right now I am sneeking in a post.

I finished reading The Master and Margarita. It was a very enjoyable and interesting read. Apparently some of the humor is lost in the conversion from Russian to English as I didn’t find it very humorous at all. I was about to pick up The Tales of Genji as it was recommended to me by Nate. I didn’t want to lug that big book around for my Vegas trip, so as I was browsing Barnes and Noble, I stumbled across a novel called The Tale of Murasaki. I was originally drawn to this book by it’s ornate cover. As I was reading the back cover, I found out that it is a novel about Murasaki Shikibu who was the author of The Tales of Genji. What a coincidence.

I went to Las Vegas over Holloween weekend which was very fun, as usual. Ben taught me how to play craps, which appears to be a hard game, but actually isn’t when you finally get a chance to see how it is played. I lost $60 playing blackjack, though I didn’t play all that much. I think that I have a much better understanding of 21 now. We played craps for a few hours and made about $10 an hour during that span, not enough to quit my day job, but anytime you can take some Vegas money is a good time. Overall I was down around $15. Photos will be up in a while once I get them off my Powerbook and resize them a bit. There are some spetacular shots from the plane ride out to Nevada.

Kendra and I went to see Jethro Tull last Thrusday. We went to Nanakusa for sushi before hand, which is always tasty. The show was spectacular, even though I was very tired. Ian Anderson can still move around pretty well for a man pushing 60. He played a song called Dance Boris Dance which was the highlight of the show for me.

Donnie finally got around to starting up a blog. He is using WordPress too. As soon as he linked back to my blog, I started to get comment spam so I installed WP Blacklist.

Site Update
Another site redesign…

This time it works in Firefox for Mac, Linux and Windows, Safari, and IE for Windows.

Firefox 1.0 was released today, and if you don’t have it yet, go get it.

..back to cleaning the apartment.

Watched Amelie for the second time tonight. Wow! I completely forgot about this amazing movie. There is so little nuances hidden in the movie that you will pick up something new everytime you watch it. A few things to look out for and ponder over for the next viewing:
1.) Usage of color. Red and Green are predominant colors in the film.
2.) Situations when Amelie pick up a stone.
3.) Glowing 0bjects.

Site Update
Redid the photo’s section using Original and added a few galleries. I can’t seem to figure out how to modify the gallery date using the info.txt file

Music
I recently discovered a band called Travis, and more precisely the 12 Memories album. The album starts out a little brash or punkish but chills out (and gets better!) as the album goes on. My favorite track is No. 10, “Happy To Hang Around” which features my favorite lyric on the album, which is also the chorus

And I’ll never get into your heart
Though I don’t even want to start
I’ll never get into your heart
I’m just happy to hang around

Travis and Keane have been surprises for me as I anxiously await something fresh from Coldplay.
